Pole-and-line, deep-water Pemba

The Pemba Channel drops to 800m within 10km of shore, one of the deepest near-shore yellowfin fisheries in the western Indian Ocean. Our partner fleet (six vessels, all locally owned) fishes pole-and-line only. No longline. No FAD. No purse-seine. Bycatch is essentially zero.

Onboard handling

Each fish is iki-jime spiked at the gunnel within 30 seconds of landing. Bled, gilled, gutted, ice-slurry chill to +1°C inside 5 minutes. Held in slurry to port (max 36 hours). Total chain-to-landing <48h.

Forms & sizes

  • Whole round, fresh-chilled, 20–60kg. Air freight to EU or Tokyo within 72h of catch.
  • Headed & gutted (HG), frozen, −40°C blast, IQF. 20–60kg.
  • Loins, vacuum-packed, frozen, 4–8kg loins, sashimi grade.
  • CO-treated, on request, fully disclosed in paperwork.

Yellowfin questions, answered

Real pole-and-line. Six vessels, all named and registered. Each has an MSC chain-of-custody number tied to its vessel ID. Vessel logs available on request.

For air freight: catch Day 0, landing Day 0–1, packed Dar Day 1, flight Day 2, EU arrival Day 3. Sashimi-grade fish in Tokyo wholesale floors within 72–84 hours of strike.

Tested per lot. Below 5ppm at landing for fresh, below 10ppm at landing for frozen. Full results in COA per shipment.
